Well wondering what all this is about ? I did my engineering in a place called tumkur( 60 kms away from bangalore , and till date we prefer saying bangalore :) ) and the name of the college was Siddaganga Institute of Technology.
Till we were in college we always used to think , when do we get out of this place ?
It was such a place where even a hot jalebi felt like a delicacy.Hostel food was such that anything on the roadside felt tasty.A quite place with our college campus being the favorite place for early morning walkers.The best Non-Veg food was only available in Bar and Restaurant.Initially people go in for the restaurant part and later get hooked to the bar ... :)
But sarcasms apart ... now when I look back and remember the college days ... I really feel I had enjoyed it and those were really memorable days.Yes it was not a perfect place and the college wasn't perfect too , but we know nothing is perfect these days. The hostel life was the most memorable part. Late night hunger meant cooking maggi in a water heater ... and the aroma of it got us all the uninvited buddies who have something to discuss at that time...
Well engineering taught us how to make the most out of anything in a short time.It was in this phase of life that we got hooked to heavy rock and metal kind of music too , because the pressure of studies would make us listen to such stuff and enjoy.
Studies went somewhat well too ... we had to mostly depend on each other for understanding the subjects ... because apart from few good lecturers teaching quality was a bit questionable. I managed to squeeze in the distinction degree without any flunks ..I still consider it an achievement till date ... :) ... and with the alumni getting placed in all the major good multinationals .. we can say yes our college was indeed a prestigious one ....
Now comes the best part of our college life and tumkur :
-- Unlimited trips to the jammu dhaba on the highway ... with mode of transport being hitch hiking in a truck....They prepared world class chai , chicken gravy and chana chat... last I heard that it has closed.
... Trips to Punjabi dhaba ... which prepared an awesome liver fry ...paneer chilly and tandoori chicken......
... Trips to vaishali Bar and restaurant ... which had its vaishali special mutton dishes being in high demand ...and the most weird thing .. they actually served complimentary rasam with drinks :) ... and unbelievably we enjoyed the rasam more ....
... All the hindi movies being screened in Jai Bharat .. a rickety old single screen theater which screened all the major hindi movies ....Balcony tickets are till date as low as 40 rs... and all the major actors were showered with the choicest hindi expletives once they came on screen ....
... SIT Back gate which had all the xerox joints ... which helped us get the notes to study before exams ....
... All the CD parlours having the best bollywood and Hollywood movies rented for as low as 10 rs ...
Well these were just some of my random thoughts which I pitched in ...... I made some of my best buddies during my college life .... All in all it was a rockin time...Tumkur did give me some of the most memorable moments ..Yes finally I accept that those days are to be cherished and remembered forever ... signing off ....
